Spacious and Stylish
As a first foray into a bed for two sleepers, a double bed grants a sense of freedom and comfort. The perfect upgrade from a single or even a small double bed, a standard double provides ample space for stretching out at night, helping you feel more relaxed and refreshed in the morning.
Our wooden double beds are available in a vast range of styles, finishes, and materials, and each frame comes with a 12-year structural guarantee on its parts, meaning you can rest assured your double bed will last for years and years.
Why Choose a Double Bed?
Whether it’s for a master bedroom or a lavish spare room, double beds are chosen for many reasons, such as:
Room for Two: While a double bed certainly isn’t the largest bed frame size available, a double frame still offers more than enough space for two sleepers to relax, while also being conscious of room size.
Storage Improvements: With their increased footprint, double beds offer a significant upgrade in the storage compartment. Whether it’s larger storage boxes underneath the frame or deeper storage compartments built in (like with an ottoman), a double bed brings all the enhancements.
Style Choice: Double beds are some of the most popular sizes available. As such, we offer all of our handmade beds in a double size, including six high-quality finishes.
Double Bed Dimensions
A standard double bed adds 15 cm of width over a small double, while measuring the same in length. Although a slight change, the real difference can be seen when comparing to a standard single, of which a double bed measures 45 cm wider. Altogether, a double bed measures 135 cm x 190 cm (4’6” x 6’3”).
Other bed sizes we have available include:
- Single – 90 x 190cm (3’0” x 6’3”)
- Small double – 120 x 190cm (4’0” x 6’3”)
- King – 150 x 200cm (5’0” x 6’6”)
- Super King – 180 x 200cm (6’0” x 6’6”)
- Emperor – 215 x 215cm (7’0” x 7’0”)
Double Bed Styles
To cater for as many preferences as possible, we design and build double beds across all of our wooden bed types. From storage-focused ottoman beds to more traditional standard height beds, there’s something for everyone.
Standard Height Beds: Our standard height beds are designed for the masses, with an accessible height making them easy to get in and out of.
Low Wooden Beds: Not only are low beds great for shorter users, they also offer a unique visual design, through low platform beds and even Japanese-inspired designs.
Platform Beds: Platform beds use a wide, solid base to provide long-lasting support to you and your mattress throughout the night.
Beds With Headboards: Protective and stylish, a bed with a headboard keeps your walls free from damage while also keeping pillows and bedding in place.
Ottoman Storage Beds: Keep clutter at bay with an ottoman storage bed. These beds have gas-powered lifting mechanisms that help raise the sleeping platform to reveal a spacious storage compartment beneath.
Oak Bed Frames: We pride ourselves on using sustainably sourced oak across our entire bed frame collection, with six choices of stain available.
Four Poster Beds: Four poster beds are a classic for a reason. Their style has stood the test of time, being in frequent use throughout the centuries.
Live Edge Bed Frames: For a one-of-a-kind bed, a live edge frame is hard to beat. These frames celebrate the natural aesthetics of the wood they’re cut from, ensuring each frame is unique.
Double Bed Finishes
Whether it’s raw, unfinished wood, a light and airy colouring, or bold dark shades, we have six finish options to choose from across our oak and pine double bed collection.
Unfinished Wooden Beds: If you like the look of natural oak or pine, or want to add your own finish, we can supply your bed in its raw material, with no lacquer.
White Wooden Beds: Is natural too dark? If so, our clear white stain adds a vibrant, matte finish to your bed frame - a great choice for contemporary rooms.
Light Wooden Beds: To protect the bed frame’s grain and patterns, we can apply a clear, water-based lacquer that showcases the natural finish, while adding protection.
Medium Wooden Beds: Our medium stain enhances the appearance of your wooden frame, adding a touch of warmth to your room.
Walnut Wooden Beds: As the second darkest finish we offer, a walnut frame oozes class and character, no matter the frame.
Black Wooden Beds: For a bold look, nothing beats a black stain. We use our darkest stain available to create a striking bed frame that makes a statement.
As well as these, we also offer a premium selection of finishes using Rubio Monocoat. With options such as walnut and chocolate, these VOC-free stains enhance the natural beauty of the wood grain, while also offering protection.

FAQ's
What Size Is A Double Wooden Bed?
A UK standard double bed measures 135 x 190 cm (4’6” x 6’3”). This size makes them incredibly popular among solo sleepers and couples. That said, they aren’t the largest size on the market – for a step up in size, look to king size beds.
Is A Double Bed Suitable For Two Adults?
Double beds can comfortably sleep two adults. Compared to a small double, for example, where it might feel like too tight a squeeze, a double bed grants 75 cm each of width for two sleepers to sprawl out and relax.
Should I Choose A Double Bed Or A King Size Bed?
While a double bed is a popular option, there are larger beds available if you have the means. Doubles can be used by two adults, but a king takes this to another level, granting a further 15 cm of width over the double - albeit at the cost of more floor space being taken up by the bed itself.
Do Double Wooden Beds Come With Storage?
Many of our bed frame styles can be found in a double size, which includes storage-focused options like ottoman beds, as well as standard height beds that offer space beneath the frame for storage boxes.
What Styles Of Double Wooden Beds Are Available?
We offer a variety of double beds in our wooden bed range. From bold pieces like four poster beds and platform beds, to subdued, minimalist designs in our low bed range.
What Finishes Can I Choose For A Double Wooden Bed?
We have a choice of six different finishes to choose from across all of our beds, including our double range. These include raw, unfinished wood, as well as light or dark shades.
Are Double Beds Good For Guest Rooms?
For larger guest rooms, a double bed is an excellent choice. Compared to singles or small doubles, a double bed offers guests a much more luxurious rest, with plenty of room to spread out throughout the night.
