Emperor Size Wooden Beds

An Emperor size bed gives you a generous 215 x 215cm (7'0" x 7'0") mattress area, making it the largest bed size in our standard collection. With additional width and length compared with a super king, it's a bed designed for larger bedrooms and anyone who wants considerably more room to stretch out.

Our Emperor wooden beds are handmade to order in Yorkshire from solid European oak or Scandinavian pine. Choose from a wide range of bed designs and finishes to create a 7ft bed that makes the most of the space available.

Just How Big Is an Emperor Bed?

At 215 x 215cm, an Emperor mattress is a square, giving you the same generous measurement from side to side as you get from head to foot. The difference becomes clearer when you compare it with the other larger sizes in our range:

King: 150 x 200cm

Super King: 180 x 200cm

Emperor: 215 x 215cm

Moving from a super king to Emperor adds 35cm of width and 15cm of length. That makes an Emperor particularly generous for two people sharing. Planning Your Bedroom Around a 7ft Bed

Choosing an Emperor requires a little more planning than choosing one of the smaller standard sizes.

The 215 x 215cm measurement refers to the mattress, not the complete wooden frame. Your chosen bed will have larger external dimensions, and features such as a headboard, posts or a wider platform design can affect the overall footprint.

Before ordering, measure the room and consider:

• The space available on both sides and at the foot of the bed.
• Whether wardrobes, drawers and bedroom doors can open properly.
• Where bedside furniture will sit.
• The position of radiators, windows and other fixed features.
• How the proportions of your chosen bed style will work within the room.

An Emperor is naturally going to occupy a significant amount of floor space. In the right bedroom that's part of its appeal, but it's worth mapping out the complete dimensions before deciding that a 7ft bed is right for you.

Don't Forget the Mattress

The frame isn't the only measurement to think about when choosing an Emperor bed.

You'll need a mattress measuring 215 x 215cm to fit our Emperor size frames correctly. Because this is considerably larger than more common double and king mattresses, it's worth making sure you have the right mattress size planned before ordering your bed. Access deserves some thought too. Our wooden beds are delivered flat packed for assembly in the room, but an Emperor mattress is a very large item in its own right. Check stairways, landings, doorways and any particularly tight turns involved in getting it into the bedroom.

Choose an Emperor Bed Style That Suits the Space

An Emperor is available across a wide choice of our wooden bed designs, so a 7ft bed doesn't have to mean one particular look. A low wooden bed or simple platform frame can help keep the overall design understated despite the generous dimensions. A headboard or live edge oak bed makes more of the width, while a four poster bed can turn those proportions into a much stronger bedroom feature.

Storage is available too. Choose an ottoman bed for concealed storage beneath the mattress or pair compatible standard-height frames with wooden under-bed drawers.

Solid Oak or Pine, Made to Order

Every Emperor size bed is handmade to order in our Yorkshire workshop from solid European oak or Scandinavian pine, with solid wooden slats used throughout the range. Oak gives you distinctive grain and natural variation across a substantial wooden frame, while pine has a lighter natural appearance and provides a more affordable solid timber option.

You can then choose from Unfinished, White, Light, Medium, Walnut and Black, with £1 colour samples available to compare at home. Premium Rubio Monocoat finishes are also available for oak.
