Standard Height Beds for Comfort and Accessibility
When it comes to your bed, comfort is key, and standard height beds are the most favoured around the world.
A standard bed height has a footboard height of 40 cm, with slats that can be arranged level with the frame or slightly beneath. This is generally considered the most comfortable, accommodating most sleeping preferences and mattress combinations.
Our selection of standard height beds are crafted with precision, with different colours and styles available to suit your preferences. Each bed offers that perfect blend of comfort, durability, style and storage, with easy-to-follow assembly instructions.
Standard Height Beds vs Low and Platform Beds
Standard height beds are a popular choice due to their suitability for different users. With their high sleeping positions and footboard heights of around 40 cm, they are considered better for joints, especially for those suffering with back issues.
Low beds, by comparison, sit closer to the ground, with footboard heights of just 20 cm. These bed designs can help rooms appear taller and more open, ideal for more minimalist décor. However, low beds are not the best option for taller individuals or those with certain mobility issues, due to the low height that can put strain on your joints.
Platform beds also feature a low design, but are built with a solid base that helps support a mattress without the need for a box spring. Whilst these beds possess a sleek, space-saving design, under-bed storage can be limited. Platform beds can also be too low for those with mobility issues.
Benefits of Standard Height Beds
With their practical design, our standard height beds come with many advantages.
Accessible Design: The standard bed height provides comfortable accessibility for most, designed to reach around knee-level for ease of use. Compared to lower or perhaps even higher bed frames, standard height designs reduce the risk of strain on knees and hips, making them a practical choice.
Design Compatibility: Standard height beds suit a wide range of interior designs, particularly alongside bedside tables, helping give spaces stylistic balance.
Storage: Underbed storage is a key advantage of standard height beds, which offer ample space for household items such as bedsheets and clothing.

Standard Height Bed Finishes
We have a total of six bed frame finishes to choose from, which can be applied to both pine or oak frames.
Unfinished Wooden Beds: If you like the look of natural oak or pine, we can supply your bed in its raw material, with no lacquer.
White Wooden Beds: Is natural too dark? If so, our clear white stain adds a vibrant, matte finish to your bed frame - a great choice for contemporary rooms.
Light Wooden Beds: To protect the bed frame’s grain and patterns, we can apply a clear, water-based lacquer that showcases the natural finish, while adding protection.
Medium Wooden Beds: Our medium stain enhances the appearance of your wooden frame, adding a touch of warmth to your room.
Walnut Wooden Beds: As the second darkest finish we offer, a walnut frame oozes class and character, no matter the frame.
Black Wooden Beds: For a bold look, nothing beats a black stain. We use our darkest stain available to create a striking bed frame that makes a statement.
Standard Height Beds
FAQ's
What Is the Standard Height of a Bed?
We measure the height of our beds by either the footboard or the headboard. Given that not all beds come with a headboard, the footboard measurement is usually used as an indicator. Our standard height beds have a footboard height of around 40 cm.
Why Is Bed Height Important?
Bed height is important because it can affect how easily you can get in and out of bed. The correct bed height will differ from person to person, but a standard bed frame height is the most common, due to ease of use and access. To ensure proper comfort, it’s important to choose a bed height that suits individual needs, allowing you to get in and out without any strain.
What Are the Different Bed Frame Heights?
With a standard height bed having a footboard height of 40 cm, a lower bed cuts this measurement in half to 20 cm. This offers sleepers a lower-profile bed frame that’s better suited to shorter bedrooms, such as loft conversions.
Are Standard Bed Heights the Same Worldwide?
Bed height can vary greatly depending on who and where you buy. This can mean some variance between suppliers and across different parts of the world.
