A Touch of Royalty
King size beds are one of the larger standard UK bed frame sizes, and with that comes a boost in overall comfort and practical features. The increased footprint helps a king size bed dominate a bedroom, acting as a focal point to tie the whole room together.
When matched with your existing furniture (and interior decor), a king size bed creates a relaxing, inviting environment that helps you drift off effortlessly.
Why Choose a King Size Bed?
With its large size, a king size bed brings a host of benefits to your bedroom, including:
Personal Space: Although other bed frames do offer enough space for two sleepers, who wants just enough? With a king size bed, each sleeper gets ample room, and a bit extra.
Storage Improvements: With the increased size of a king size bed comes additional storage possibilities, too. The extra length and width mean greater space for keeping essential items out of the way.
Improved Sleep Quality: Thanks to the additional space a king size bed provides, sleepers can enjoy a more peaceful night’s sleep, due to fewer distractions from partners.
King Size Bed Dimensions
King size beds are the largest standard UK bed size, adding 15 cm of width over the standard double, while also adding 10 cm of length.
Although large, a king size bed is beaten out by two remaining sizes: the super king and the emperor. Other bed sizes available include:
Single – 90 x 190cm (3’0” x 6’3”)
Small double – 120 x 190cm (4’0” x 6’3”)
Double – 135 x 190cm (4’6” x 6’3”)
Super King – 180 x 200cm (6’0” x 6’6”)
Emperor – 215 x 215cm (7’0” x 7’0”)
King Size Bed Styles
With each of our beds being handmade, we offer every single type and design of bed frame in a king size option. This grants greater storage facilities to the likes of ottoman beds, while also complementing the grandeur of a four poster bed.
Standard Height Beds: Featuring a footboard height of 40 cm, our standard height beds are designed to be easy to use and, above all, comfortable for most users.
Low Wooden Beds: Granting both a unique visual design and more accessibility for shorter users, a low wooden bed is both stylish and practical.
Platform Beds: With a wide base, a platform bed provides a solid foundation for your mattress to rest on, offering the utmost support through the night.
Beds With Headboards: Not only does a bed with a headboard provide a unique look, but it’s also practical - giving protection to nearby walls and helping keep pillows in place.
Ottoman Storage Beds: Ottoman beds excel at storage. The lifting base allows all your nighttime essentials to be kept out of the way, maximising the available space in your bedroom.
Oak Bed Frames: Our oak beds are made with sustainably sourced wood from trusted suppliers, and can be customised with six different finishes.
Four Poster Beds: A four-poster bed is a tried and tested design that has stood the test of time, dating all the way back to the 16th century.
Live Edge Bed Frames: For a unique bed frame, nothing quite beats a live edge bed frame. These beds conform to the natural beauty of the wood they’re made from, embracing imperfections and showcasing the cuts and grain.
King Size Bed Finishes
To make your king size bed your own, we also offer a variety of different finishes to choose from, each protected with a highly durable lacquer:
Unfinished Wooden Beds: If you like the look of natural oak or pine, or would prefer to finish the bed yourself, we can supply your bed in its raw material, with no lacquer.
White Wooden Beds: Is natural too dark? If so, our clear white stain adds a vibrant, matte finish to your bed frame - a great choice for contemporary rooms.
Light Wooden Beds: To protect the bed frame’s grain and patterns, we can apply a clear, water-based lacquer that showcases the natural finish, while adding protection.
Medium Wooden Beds: Our medium stain enhances the appearance of your wooden frame, adding a touch of warmth to your room.
Walnut Wooden Beds: As the second darkest finish we offer, a walnut frame oozes class and character, no matter the frame.
Black Wooden Beds: For a bold look, nothing beats a black stain. We use our darkest stain available to create a striking bed frame that makes a statement.
Want something more premium? Our flagship selection of stains provided by Rubio Monocoat are the epitome of style and durability. Available in colours like pure and chocolate, find out more about our premium stain range here: Premium Rubio Monocoat Finishes.

FAQ's
What Size Is A King Size Wooden Bed?

What Is The Difference Between A King Size And A Double Bed?
The most noticeable difference between a king size bed and a standard double is their size. Compared, a king size bed adds 15 cm of width and 10 cm of length over the standard double, making it even more comfortable for couples.
Is A King Size Bed Worth It?
Your choice of bed frame is super important. Provided your bedroom can fit a king size frame and allow room for other pieces of furniture, the luxury of the extra length and width provided over smaller sizes can make them more than worth the additional cost.
Do King Size Beds Fit In All Bedrooms?
As with any bed frame, you should always take accurate measurements of your bedroom before buying. This avoids disappointment and ensures that the frame fits perfectly into your space.
Can I Get A King Size Wooden Bed With Storage?
We offer many storage-focused bed frames in our collection. Whether that’s a bed frame with storage built in (like an ottoman bed), or a standard height bed with space underneath for storage boxes, most bed frames offer plenty of opportunities to keep clutter to a minimum.
What Styles Of King Size Beds Are Available?
At our in-house, UK-based manufacturing facility, we design and build a variety of different wooden beds by hand. This includes more traditional designs like Four poster beds, as well as more minimalistic, contemporary styles like Japanese beds. Altogether, there are eight different options to choose from.
What Finishes Are Available For King Size Beds?
We offer a total of six different finishes across our king size range. This includes unfinished wood for a more natural look, as well as darker shades to create a statement piece in your bedroom. Whatever your preference, you can customise your bed frame to suit your room’s aesthetics and complement your existing furniture.
