Scandinavian pine is a naturally pale softwood with visible grain, knots and variation that give it plenty of character of its own. Its lighter appearance works particularly well if you want to keep a bedroom feeling simple and natural, while the timber also takes different finishes well if you prefer a deeper colour.

Price is another advantage. Pine generally costs less than European oak, allowing you to choose a solid wooden bed without moving into the higher price point associated with denser hardwoods.

As a softwood, pine can pick up dents and marks more readily than oak over time. We think it's important to be clear about that difference. We offer Scandinavian pine across many of our bed designs, so choosing pine doesn't limit you to one particular look.

Standard height beds have classic proportions, with a frame height of around 40cm before the mattress.

Low wooden beds sit at around 20cm, giving the bed a lower profile that can work particularly well beneath windows or sloping ceilings.

Platform beds offer simpler designs, including headboard-free options that keep the overall frame understated.

Beds with headboards put more of the natural pine on display and give the bed greater presence within the room.

Ottoman storage beds combine a solid pine frame with useful concealed storage beneath the mattress.

Four poster beds use taller posts and an upper frame to create a more prominent bedroom feature.

• King – 150 x 200cm (5’0” x 6’6”)
• Super King – 180 x 200cm (6’0” x 6’6”)
• Emperor – 215 x 215cm (7’0” x 7’0”)

Choosing a Finish for Your Pine Bed

One of the advantages of Scandinavian pine is how much its appearance can change depending on the finish you choose.

Our standard options include unfinished, white, light, medium, walnut and black. An unfinished or lighter option keeps more of pine's naturally pale appearance on show, while medium and darker finishes give the same timber a richer, deeper tone.

Pine or Oak Bed Frame?

Both pine and oak can make excellent solid wooden beds, but there are differences worth considering.

Scandinavian pine is a softer and lighter timber with a naturally paler appearance and a more accessible price point. European oak is denser, heavier and typically more expensive, with its own distinctive grain and natural character. Your choice ultimately comes down to the appearance, characteristics and budget that suit you best.
